How to Prepare for Your Senior Session
It’s no secret that the bread and butter of my small business are my high school seniors and college graduates. These portrait sessions consistently leave my cup overflowing. Whether that is through the fun individualized posing prompts, the sweet details that are sprinkled throughout the session, or ensuring that your senior portrait session reflects you - authentically and boldly.
However, we cannot capture you, as well you, without preparing. Here are a few of my tips and tricks in knowing how to prepare for your upcoming senior or graduate portrait session. As your photographer, I am here for you every step of the way prior to session day including answering all of your outfit styling questions, location scouting, and assisting you in gathering any memorabilia that is important to you to be photographed.
Tips and Tricks for Portrait Success:
Schedule your session within two hours of sunrise or two hours prior to sunset. Trust me that soft morning glow or evening golden hour will leave your pictures feeling creamy and beautiful. The cherry on top? If you’re taking photos during the Summer these times will help you stay cool.
Pick outfits with variety. I always recommend one more formal outfit and one more casual. For my ladies this could be a dress for one photo set and then jeans and a cute top for your second set. Similarly for my guys I’d recommend khakis and a button down then changing into jeans and a t-shirt.
Lay out each outfit with the shoes and accessories to match. Once you have an outfit set, take a photo of the outfit. This may sound odd but on session day when you are moving from location to location with quick changes you don’t want to forget an accessory you intended to wear. This gives yourself grace and one less thing to think about during session day.
Show what you are passionate about. Played a sport throughout high school? Wear your jersey or bring your letterman jacket. Have a favorite book? Let’s include it in your session. The opportunities are endless so bring what you want to remember.
Come as you! Session day is not the day to wear make-up for the first time, style your hair a new way, or to wear something that you wouldn’t normally. You are wonderful being who you are as you are, so let’s plan for your images reflect you as you.
I cannot wait to work with you and to capture you authentically and boldly.
